Notes, Tags & Folders

How to create, organize, tag, search, and navigate notes and folders in ZeroSort.

ZeroSort organizes notes with a hierarchical folder tree and a flexible tagging system. Folders can be nested to any depth, tags can cut across folder boundaries, and notes can be moved freely between them. AI handles folder placement automatically when you generate, and you have full manual control over folders and tags at any time.

Creating a Note

  1. Click the Create button.
  2. Type or paste your content into the editor.
  3. Press the Sort and select the fields to generate.
  4. AI generates a title, summary, folder placement and tags automatically.

You can also create a note manually without AI generation by clicking the note header to edit the title directly.

Editing a Note

Open a note to edit its content, title, summary, tags, folder, or creation date. Each field is independent — you can update just the title or tags without touching anything else.

If you have unsaved changes and try to navigate away or close the tab, ZeroSort will prompt you to save or discard before proceeding.

Tags can be added, removed, or created inline from the note header. You can also ask AI to regenerate suggested tags for an existing note when you want a fresh set of labels.

Multi-Tab Editing

Open multiple notes simultaneously using tabs at the top of the editor panel. Tab state persists across sessions, so your open notes are restored when you relaunch the app.

Moving Notes

Open a note and use the Move action to reassign it to a different folder. The folder picker shows your complete folder tree.

Folders

Creating Folders

Click the + icon next to any folder in the sidebar to create a subfolder. You can also let AI create folders organically as it places new notes.

Renaming and Deleting

Use the folder action menu to rename or delete it.

When deleting a folder you can choose to:

  • Move notes to Uncategorized — keeps the notes but removes the folder
  • Delete everything — permanently removes the folder and all notes inside it

Folder Note Counts

Optionally display the number of notes in each folder next to the folder name. Toggle this in Settings → General → Show Folder Note Count.

Search

Use the search bar at the top of the sidebar to filter in real time across:

  • Folder names
  • Note titles
  • Note summaries

Results narrow as you type. Clear the search to return to the full folder tree.

For tag-based discovery, use the Tag Manager to activate one or more tag filters. You can switch between Match any and Match all depending on whether you want broader or narrower results.

Sorting

Sort the note list by:

  • Date created — newest first
  • Last modified — most recently edited first

Switch between sort modes using the sort dropdown above the note list.

Date Picker

Click the calendar icon above the note list to filter notes by a specific date. Only notes created on that date are shown. Click again to clear the filter.

Timeline Scrubber

The timeline scrubber runs vertically along the edge of the note list and shows a month-by-month overview of your notes. Drag or click on a month to jump directly to notes from that period without scrolling. This is especially useful when you have hundreds or thousands of notes.
